Explicit limits.
BreakBot’s current scanner reads Minecraft Java pre-login Status. These notes describe implemented behavior and the operational policies still to be established.
What the scanner does
The CLI connects to endpoints provided by its operator, requests Status, parses the response, and measures network timings. It has a legacy ping fallback. The current V1 scanner does not log in as a player, enter a world, send chat, or execute game commands.
With database persistence enabled, it retains raw server responses, normalized reported fields, change snapshots, scan runs, and valid UUID observations from public player samples. A Status sample is incomplete and does not establish a complete player list or visit history.
Operator responsibility
Only scan infrastructure you operate or are authorized to assess. Choose conservative concurrency and timeout settings appropriate to your targets and network. An open port is a candidate for protocol verification, not evidence of consent or server trustworthiness.
Repository behavior does not establish a universal scanning permission. A formal retention policy, server-owner exclusion workflow, and operational opt-out are planned in V2 and are not presented as existing guarantees.
What optional Claude analysis sends
Only an explicit analysis invocation calls Claude on stored successful metadata. Ordinary scanning, rescanning, and server viewing make no AI request. The allowlisted input consists of bounded MOTD, version, directly reported software/proxy/loader, and mod metadata.
Player samples and counts, endpoints, raw payloads, and arbitrary fields are omitted from the structured input. The input builder attempts to redact identifiers embedded in text, including sampled names and addresses. This is best effort: arbitrary server text may still contain personal information. Review the metadata before requesting analysis when privacy is a concern.
Server text is treated as untrusted evidence. Results are schema-validated, evidence quotes are checked, and AI output is stored separately from reported data. These checks do not guarantee correctness or complete resistance to malicious text.
How to read classifications
A protocol field is something the server reported. An advertisement is a claim in its public text. An AI interpretation organizes that evidence; it does not establish whether the advertisement is true. Region labels are advertised regions, not verified locations. Unknown values remain unknown.
Analysis uses the latest successful stored response, which can become stale after failed rechecks. Observation and analysis timestamps are separate. API charges and retry behavior belong to the optional analysis workflow; the static website makes no provider requests.
